All members and staff,
1. i'm looking for what you would suggest as a "Mission Statement" for a planning & zoning committee.
2. what do we want to accomplish or do ?
3. what are we asking of committee members ?
just plain and simple to help me get my thoughts aligned.

Possible Mission Statement:
The mission of our small city planning and zoning committee is to promote and facilitate responsible development, while preserving the character and charm of our community. We strive to create a balanced approach to growth that considers the needs of current and future residents, businesses, and visitors. We are committed to providing fair and efficient zoning regulations and land-use policies that promote sustainability, accessibility, and safety for all. Through collaboration with community members and local stakeholders, we aim to create a vibrant, livable, and resilient city that reflects the values and aspirations of our community.
I think it's a pretty good starting point that you can tweak.

And I think Committee By-Laws can lay out more of what we are asking of members. I have a start on that that I'll post here after I finish them out.

Planning & Zoning Committee (members). i currently have 2 firm commitments. One is ETJ but "in downtown". The other is in unincorporated/rural. Both seem genuinely enthusiastic about this. working on 1 or 2 "in" city limits. and hopefully someone with, possibly, commercial or light industrial interests.
any feedback or suggestions y'all ?

Sorry for a late reply! Those 2 seem like exactly what we're looking for as far as location in/out of city limits and ETJ. Since the KCC members are all in the city limits, I think we can start with this. It would be a cherry on top to have a couple of more members with business interests.

I created a Board for the P&Z Committee and added a post there. I've copied it here also: This is the link to the Planning and Zoning Ordinance that the City of Staples created in 2016. It is 98 pages long but don't be too alarmed, much of it includes the definitions for everything possible regarding land usage and then definitions for all zoning codes. It's very complete and would probably make a good resource for Kingsbury P&Z. Link: Staples P&Z Ordinance
